The headwinds for building new data centers are numerous. Grid interconnection lead time is on the order of 5 years. A wary public is showing up at planning meetings in force complaining about increased stress on the electrical grid, enormous amounts of fresh water used for cooling, and environmental/climate impact due to increased carbon emissions. To allay their concerns about the grid, dedicated gas-powered turbines are an option, but that doesn’t address the concerns over water, nor the carbon emissions.  Further, the lead-time for gas turbines is also 5 years.
